IT'S NOT REALLY ALL THAT RANDOM!
Popularly known as a HardPopster, Geoff Westen continues cranking out music that showcases his personal mission of presenting fresh musical takes defined from his diverse musical experience. On Random Acts of Music, Westen dives into the collection with the breezy "Breaking Glass," a synthesis of Pop tradition with his penchant for Rock Ambient music that even includes an incipient nod to the iconography of Steely Dan. But "BG" is simply an effortless portal into the nine tracks that follow. On this adventure, you'll make your way through midtempo favorites like "Time Is Running Out" and "Dark Voices" to close with the idiosyncratic, "I'll Always Be Around." On this roundtrip you will tour the Rock Pop road that Westen travels, offering dancey, rockey, and poppy signatures and his familiarity with other pop offroads only accentuates Westen's random "acts" of music.
This is Geoff's fourth rock offering on Disturbing Music which calls on the breadth of his pop history songs that always have a backbeat, with a hummable hook and melody and that are invariably novel as he confidently traverses the borderline between PowerPop and Rock. It is undeniably reflective of his SF, LA and London musical history from the gaudy, wild and vibrant era of guitardriven rock to the age of digital enhancement, you'll always hear echoes of classics, songs that make you tap your feet.
RAOM invariably steers closer to his pop roots. His previous rock albums garnered worldwide praise. The Pigs Oink! was touted as both "catchy" and "quirky;" Vidiots Tune In! a "neontinged treasure" and "the sort of subversive product that gets you singing along (and) then pondering the lyrics and the lives depicted. Fun!" and I'm Not Crazy was "hyperreal pop," "showcasing danceworthy beats!" In an alternate vein, his divergent Rock Ambient Music albums, Birth, Activate! and Xmas Vol. 1, released under the nom de plume, Digital Activity, are breaths of instrumental fresh air "exploring a wide melodic and experimental diversity."
Give Random Acts of Music a go. There's surely something here for everyone.
